Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of all the linear walls in the area. For instance, you might need a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover every lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for every large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room that has two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and indicated before cutting. While a manual miter box and saw is used for used for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a powered miter saw can be recommended as cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, the majority of molding is already equipped with a primer coat of paint, but if you opt for bare wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood then let it cure for no less than an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These labels will serve as a point of reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding to the wall, invert it ensuring that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and managing it while you proceed. Commence at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might sometimes arise along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as rarely are these walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To resolve these spaces, it's possible to seal them by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
