Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of the straight walls in the area. For instance, you might need a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover every short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for every large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area with two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and indicated for cutting. While a manual miter saw is used for employed for miter-cutting crown molding, preferring a powered miter saw is preferred as the cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim is already equipped featuring a primer coat of paint, but should you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood then let it dry for no less than an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These labels will serve as a reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding on the wall, invert it so that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and managing it as you proceed. Commence at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may periodically appear between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as rarely are the walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To address these spaces, you can fill them up by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
