Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of the straight walls in the area. For instance, it may require one 12-foot section of crown molding to trim each lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area with a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked before cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw can be used for miter-cutting crown molding, using a power miter saw is recommended as the cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim already comes featuring a paint primer, but should you opt for bare wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to dry for at least an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks act as a reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding on the wall, invert it ensuring that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to help you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it while you proceed. Begin at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might sometimes arise along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because infrequently are these walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To resolve these spaces, you can fill them up by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
