Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of all the linear walls in the area. To illustrate, you might need one 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover every lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for every large wall, especially in a 165 square foot area that has a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked for cutting. While a manual miter box and saw can be used for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a power miter saw can be recommended as cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim is already equipped with a paint primer, but if you happen to be using bare wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to cure for no less than an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These labels act as a reference while joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding on the wall, invert it so that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to aid you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and managing it as you start. Commence at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may periodically arise along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because rarely are these walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To address these spaces, it's possible to fill them up by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
