Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the entire measurement of all the linear walls in the area. For instance, you might need a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover every short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for every large wall, especially in a 165 square foot area with two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked for cutting. While a manual miter box and saw can be used for miter-cutting crown molding, preferring a powered miter saw can be recommended as the cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, the majority of molding already comes with a primer coat of paint, but should you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to cure for no less than an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks will serve as a reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding on the wall, invert it ensuring that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it as you start. Begin at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may sometimes appear along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because rarely are these walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To resolve these spaces, you can fill them up by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at the mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, put painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
