Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the entire measurement of all the linear walls in your space. For instance, you might need a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover each lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room with a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated for cutting. Even though a manual miter saw is used for employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a powered miter saw can be preferred as cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim already comes with a paint primer, but if you opt for bare wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood and let it dry for no less than an hour before installing it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels will serve as a point of reference while joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding on the wall, turn it over ensuring that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to help you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and managing it while you proceed. Begin at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may sometimes arise between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because rarely are the walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To resolve these spaces, it's possible to fill them up by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at the mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
