Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of all the linear walls in your space. To illustrate, you might need a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover each short wall, and two 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room with two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked for cutting. Even though a manual miter saw can be used for miter-cutting crown molding, preferring a powered miter saw can be recommended since cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim is already equipped with a primer coat of paint, but should you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood and let it cure for no less than an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These marks will serve as a reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding to the wall, invert it so that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and managing it as you start. Commence at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might sometimes arise along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because infrequently are these walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To address these spaces, you can seal them by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
