Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of the straight walls in your space. To illustrate, you might need one 12-foot strip of crown molding to trim every short wall, and two 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 square foot area that has two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and indicated for cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw can be employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a power miter saw is recommended as cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim already comes with a primer coat of paint, but if you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood and let it cure for at least an hour before installing it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels will serve as a point of reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding installing the crown molding on the wall, turn it over so that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to help you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and managing it as you start. Commence at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might sometimes arise along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because infrequently are the walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To resolve these spaces, you can fill them up by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, put painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
