Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the entire measurement of the straight walls in the area. To illustrate, you might need one 12-foot section of crown molding to cover every lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for every large wall, especially in a 165 square foot area with a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked for cutting. While a manual miter box and saw can be used for miter-cutting crown molding, using a power miter saw can be recommended as the cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, the majority of molding is already equipped with a paint primer, but should you opt for bare wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to cure for at least an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These labels will serve as a point of reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding to the wall, invert it so that it is upright. Recruit an assistant to help you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and managing it while you start. Commence from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might periodically arise along the molding and the walls and ceiling, as rarely are the walls and ceilings perfectly even. To address these spaces, it's possible to fill them up by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
