Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of the straight walls in your space. For instance, it may require a single 12-foot section of crown molding to cover each lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 square foot area with two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated for cutting. While a manual miter box and saw can be used for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a power miter saw is preferred as the cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim already comes featuring a primer coat of paint, but should you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood then let it dry for no less than an hour before installing it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels will serve as a reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding installing the crown molding on the wall, turn it over so that it is upright. Recruit an assistant to help you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and managing it as you proceed. Commence from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may periodically appear between the molding and the walls and ceiling, because rarely are the walls and ceilings perfectly even. To address these spaces, it's possible to seal them by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any leftover gaps at the mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
