Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of the straight walls in the area. For instance, it may require a single 12-foot section of crown molding to trim every short wall, and two 8-foot sections for every large wall, especially in a 165 square foot area that has two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked before cutting. While a manual miter saw is used for employed for miter-cutting crown molding, using a power miter saw can be preferred as the cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, the majority of molding already comes with a paint primer, but should you happen to be using bare wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood then let it dry for at least an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These marks will serve as a point of reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding to the wall, invert it ensuring that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to help you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and managing it as you proceed. Commence at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might sometimes appear along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because rarely are the walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To address these spaces, you can fill them up by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
