Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of all the linear walls in the area. To illustrate, you might need one 12-foot section of crown molding to cover every lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 square foot room with a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked before cutting. While a manual miter saw can be used for miter-cutting crown molding, using a powered miter saw is recommended since cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim is already equipped featuring a primer coat of paint, but should you opt for bare wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to cure for no less than an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These marks act as a point of reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding to the wall, turn it over so that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to help you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and managing it while you start. Commence from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might sometimes arise between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because rarely are these walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To address these spaces, you can fill them up by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
