Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of the straight walls in your space. For instance, you might need a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to trim each lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area with a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked for cutting. While a manual miter box and saw can be employed for miter-cutting crown molding, using a powered miter saw can be preferred since the cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding is already equipped with a paint primer, but if you opt for bare wood molding, you should use a coat of primer to the wood and let it dry for no less than an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These marks will serve as a reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding to the wall, turn it over so that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to help you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and managing it while you proceed. Begin at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might periodically appear along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because rarely are the walls and ceilings perfectly even. To address these spaces, you can fill them up by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
