Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of the straight walls in the area. To illustrate, you might need a single 12-foot section of crown molding to trim each lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area that has a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked for cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw can be used for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a power miter saw can be preferred since the cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim already comes with a primer coat of paint, but if you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to cure for at least an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These labels will serve as a reference while joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding to the wall, turn it over so that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it while you start. Commence from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may sometimes appear along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as rarely are these walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To resolve these spaces, you can seal them by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, put painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
