Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of the straight walls in your space. To illustrate, you might need a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover each lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area with a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked for cutting. While a manual miter box and saw can be used for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a power miter saw is preferred as the cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, the majority of molding is already equipped featuring a paint primer, but should you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood and let it dry for no less than an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These labels will serve as a point of reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding on the wall, invert it ensuring that it is upright. Recruit an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and managing it while you start. Commence from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may sometimes arise between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because infrequently are the walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To address these spaces, you can fill them up by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, put painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
