Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of all the linear walls in the area. For instance, it may require one 12-foot section of crown molding to cover every lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 square foot room that has a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked before cutting. While a manual miter box and saw can be used for miter-cutting crown molding, using a power miter saw is preferred as cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim is already equipped with a paint primer, but if you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood then let it dry for no less than an hour before installing it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These marks act as a reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding on the wall, invert it ensuring that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and managing it as you start. Begin at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may sometimes arise along the molding and the walls and ceiling, as rarely are these walls and ceilings perfectly even. To resolve these spaces, it's possible to seal them by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any leftover gaps at the mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
