Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of all the linear walls in your space. For instance, it may require one 12-foot strip of crown molding to trim each lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room that has a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked for cutting. While a manual miter saw can be employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a power miter saw can be recommended since cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim is already equipped featuring a paint primer, but should you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood then let it cure for no less than an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels act as a reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding on the wall, turn it over so that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it while you start. Commence from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might sometimes appear between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because rarely are the walls and ceilings perfectly even. To resolve these spaces, it's possible to fill them up by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
