Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the entire measurement of the straight walls in the area. For instance, you might need a single 12-foot section of crown molding to trim every lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area that has two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated for cutting. Even though a manual miter saw can be used for miter-cutting crown molding, using a powered miter saw can be recommended since the cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim is already equipped with a primer coat of paint, but if you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood then let it dry for no less than an hour before installing it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks will serve as a point of reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding installing the crown molding on the wall, turn it over ensuring that it is upright. Recruit an assistant to help you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and managing it while you start. Begin at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may periodically arise between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as rarely are these walls and ceilings absolutely even. To resolve these spaces, it's possible to seal them by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, put painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
