Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of all the linear walls in the area. For instance, you might need one 12-foot strip of crown molding to trim every short wall, and two 8-foot sections for every large wall, especially in a 165 square foot area that has a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated before cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw can be employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a power miter saw is preferred since the cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding is already equipped with a primer coat of paint, but if you opt for bare wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood and let it dry for at least an hour before installing it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks act as a point of reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding installing the crown molding to the wall, turn it over ensuring that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to help you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it while you start. Begin at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may sometimes appear between the molding and the walls and ceiling, because infrequently are the walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To resolve these spaces, you can seal them by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
