Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of all the linear walls in your space. To illustrate, you might need one 12-foot section of crown molding to trim every short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for every large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area with a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked for cutting. While a manual miter box and saw is used for used for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a power miter saw can be preferred since the cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, the majority of molding is already equipped featuring a primer coat of paint, but should you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to cure for no less than an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks act as a reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding to the wall, invert it so that it is upright. Recruit an assistant to help you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and managing it while you proceed. Begin from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may periodically appear along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as infrequently are these walls and ceilings absolutely even. To address these spaces, you can fill them up by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
