Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of the straight walls in your space. To illustrate, it may require one 12-foot section of crown molding to cover each short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 square foot area that has two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked for cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw is used for employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a powered miter saw can be preferred since the cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding is already equipped with a primer coat of paint, but should you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, you should use a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to cure for at least an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These marks will serve as a point of reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding to the wall, invert it so that it is upright. Recruit an assistant to help you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it as you start. Commence from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might sometimes arise along the molding and the walls and ceiling, as infrequently are these walls and ceilings perfectly even. To address these spaces, it's possible to seal them by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
