Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of all the linear walls in your space. For instance, you might need one 12-foot section of crown molding to cover every lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for every large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area with two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and indicated for cutting. While a manual miter saw can be used for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a powered miter saw is recommended as the cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding already comes featuring a primer coat of paint, but if you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to dry for no less than an hour before installing it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These labels act as a point of reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding on the wall, invert it ensuring that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it as you start. Commence from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may sometimes arise along the molding and the walls and ceiling, as infrequently are the walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To address these spaces, it's possible to fill them up by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
