Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of all the linear walls in the area. For instance, you might need one 12-foot section of crown molding to trim each short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room that has a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and indicated for cutting. While a manual miter box and saw is used for employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a power miter saw is recommended as the cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, the majority of molding already comes with a primer coat of paint, but if you happen to be using bare wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood and let it cure for at least an hour before installing it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks act as a point of reference while joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding installing the crown molding on the wall, invert it so that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to help you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it as you start. Commence from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might periodically appear along the molding and the walls and ceiling, as infrequently are these walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To resolve these spaces, you can seal them by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
