Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of the straight walls in the area. To illustrate, it may require one 12-foot section of crown molding to cover every lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 square foot room that has two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and indicated for cutting. While a manual miter saw is used for used for miter-cutting crown molding, preferring a powered miter saw is recommended as the cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim already comes featuring a primer coat of paint, but should you happen to be using bare wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood and let it dry for at least an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These labels act as a reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding to the wall, turn it over so that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to help you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and managing it while you start. Begin from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might sometimes arise along the molding and the walls and ceiling, as infrequently are these walls and ceilings perfectly even. To resolve these spaces, you can seal them by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, put painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
