Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the entire measurement of the straight walls in your space. For instance, it may require one 12-foot section of crown molding to cover every short wall, and two 8-foot sections for every large wall, especially in a 165 square foot room that has a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated before cutting. While a manual miter box and saw can be used for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a powered miter saw is recommended as cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim is already equipped with a primer coat of paint, but if you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood and let it cure for at least an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These marks act as a point of reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding on the wall, turn it over so that it is upright. Recruit an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and managing it while you proceed. Begin from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might periodically appear along the molding and the walls and ceiling, because infrequently are these walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To address these spaces, you can seal them by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any leftover gaps at the mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
