Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of all the linear walls in your space. To illustrate, you might need a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover every lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 square foot area that has a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated before cutting. While a manual miter saw is used for used for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a power miter saw can be preferred since the cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim is already equipped with a primer coat of paint, but if you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood and let it dry for at least an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These marks will serve as a point of reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding on the wall, turn it over so that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to help you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and managing it as you start. Begin from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may periodically arise along the molding and the walls and ceiling, as rarely are the walls and ceilings perfectly even. To address these spaces, it's possible to seal them by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
