Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the entire measurement of the straight walls in the area. For instance, it may require one 12-foot strip of crown molding to trim each short wall, and two 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room that has a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked for cutting. Even though a manual miter saw can be used for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a power miter saw can be preferred since cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim already comes featuring a primer coat of paint, but if you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to dry for at least an hour before installing it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels act as a reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding to the wall, turn it over ensuring that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it while you proceed. Begin from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might periodically appear between the molding and the walls and ceiling, because rarely are the walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To resolve these spaces, you can fill them up by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at the mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
