Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the entire measurement of all the linear walls in the area. To illustrate, you might need a single 12-foot section of crown molding to cover each lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 square foot room with a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked for cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw can be used for miter-cutting crown molding, preferring a power miter saw is recommended as cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim is already equipped featuring a paint primer, but if you happen to be using bare wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood and let it dry for at least an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These marks will serve as a reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding to the wall, invert it so that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to aid you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and managing it as you start. Begin at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might sometimes arise between the molding and the walls and ceiling, because rarely are the walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To address these spaces, you can fill them up by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
