Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of the straight walls in the area. To illustrate, you might need a single 12-foot section of crown molding to trim every short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for every large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room that has a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked for cutting. While a manual miter saw is used for used for miter-cutting crown molding, preferring a powered miter saw can be preferred as cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, the majority of molding is already equipped featuring a primer coat of paint, but if you opt for bare wood molding, you should use a coat of primer to the wood and let it cure for at least an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These labels will serve as a point of reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding to the wall, invert it so that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to aid you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it while you start. Begin at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may sometimes arise between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as infrequently are these walls and ceilings perfectly even. To address these spaces, you can seal them by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
