Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of all the linear walls in the area. For instance, it may require a single 12-foot section of crown molding to trim each short wall, and two 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area that has a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked before cutting. Even though a manual miter saw is used for used for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a power miter saw can be recommended since the cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim is already equipped with a primer coat of paint, but should you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood then let it dry for at least an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels will serve as a point of reference while joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding installing the crown molding to the wall, turn it over ensuring that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to help you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and managing it as you proceed. Commence from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might sometimes appear between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as rarely are the walls and ceilings absolutely even. To resolve these spaces, it's possible to seal them by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
