Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the entire measurement of all the linear walls in your space. For instance, you might need a single 12-foot section of crown molding to cover each lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 square foot room with two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked before cutting. While a manual miter box and saw can be employed for miter-cutting crown molding, preferring a powered miter saw can be recommended as cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding is already equipped with a paint primer, but if you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood then let it cure for no less than an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These labels act as a reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding to the wall, turn it over so that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to help you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and managing it as you proceed. Begin at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may periodically appear between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as rarely are these walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To address these spaces, you can seal them by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
