Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the entire measurement of the straight walls in the area. For instance, it may require one 12-foot strip of crown molding to trim each short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area that has two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and indicated for cutting. While a manual miter saw can be used for miter-cutting crown molding, using a power miter saw is preferred as the cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, the majority of molding is already equipped featuring a paint primer, but if you happen to be using bare wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to dry for at least an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These labels will serve as a reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding to the wall, invert it ensuring that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to help you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and managing it as you proceed. Begin from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may periodically arise between the molding and the walls and ceiling, because rarely are these walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To resolve these spaces, you can fill them up by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
