Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the entire measurement of the straight walls in your space. To illustrate, you might need a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover each short wall, and two 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 square foot area with a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked for cutting. Even though a manual miter saw can be employed for miter-cutting crown molding, using a powered miter saw is preferred since cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding already comes with a primer coat of paint, but if you opt for bare wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood and let it cure for at least an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels act as a point of reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding installing the crown molding to the wall, turn it over so that it is upright. Recruit an assistant to help you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and managing it while you proceed. Commence from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might sometimes appear between the molding and the walls and ceiling, because rarely are the walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To address these spaces, it's possible to fill them up by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
