Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of all the linear walls in the area. For instance, you might need a single 12-foot section of crown molding to cover every short wall, and two 8-foot sections for every large wall, especially in a 165 square foot area that has a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated for cutting. Even though a manual miter saw can be used for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a power miter saw can be recommended since the cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, the majority of molding already comes with a primer coat of paint, but should you happen to be using bare wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood then let it cure for at least an hour before installing it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These marks will serve as a reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding to the wall, turn it over so that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it while you start. Begin from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might periodically arise between the molding and the walls and ceiling, because infrequently are these walls and ceilings absolutely even. To resolve these spaces, it's possible to fill them up by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at the mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
