Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of all the linear walls in your space. To illustrate, you might need one 12-foot section of crown molding to trim every short wall, and two 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room with two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked for cutting. While a manual miter saw can be used for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a power miter saw can be recommended as cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding is already equipped featuring a paint primer, but if you happen to be using bare wood molding, you should use a coat of primer to the wood and let it cure for at least an hour before installing it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels act as a reference while joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding to the wall, turn it over so that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and managing it while you start. Begin at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may periodically arise along the molding and the walls and ceiling, because infrequently are these walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To resolve these spaces, you can seal them by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
