Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of all the linear walls in your space. For instance, it may require a single 12-foot section of crown molding to trim each lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area with two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and indicated for cutting. While a manual miter box and saw can be employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a powered miter saw is recommended as the cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, the majority of molding already comes with a paint primer, but if you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to cure for at least an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These marks will serve as a point of reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding on the wall, invert it ensuring that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to help you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and managing it while you proceed. Commence at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may sometimes arise between the molding and the walls and ceiling, because rarely are these walls and ceilings absolutely even. To resolve these spaces, it's possible to fill them up by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
