Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the entire measurement of the straight walls in the area. For instance, you might need a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover every lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for every large wall, especially in a 165 square foot room with a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked before cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw can be used for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a powered miter saw is recommended since the cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding is already equipped featuring a paint primer, but if you happen to be using bare wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to dry for at least an hour before installing it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These labels will serve as a reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding installing the crown molding on the wall, invert it so that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it as you start. Begin at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may periodically arise along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as rarely are the walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To resolve these spaces, it's possible to fill them up by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
