Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of the straight walls in your space. For instance, it may require one 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover each lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room that has two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked for cutting. Even though a manual miter saw is used for used for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a power miter saw is recommended as the cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim is already equipped with a paint primer, but should you happen to be using bare wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to dry for no less than an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks act as a reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding on the wall, turn it over ensuring that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it while you start. Commence from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may sometimes appear along the molding and the walls and ceiling, as rarely are the walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To address these spaces, you can fill them up by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at the mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
