Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of all the linear walls in the area. For instance, it may require one 12-foot strip of crown molding to trim each lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room that has two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked before cutting. Even though a manual miter saw is used for employed for miter-cutting crown molding, preferring a powered miter saw is preferred since cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, the majority of molding is already equipped featuring a primer coat of paint, but should you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood then let it cure for at least an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels will serve as a reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding to the wall, turn it over so that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to aid you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and managing it while you start. Begin from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may periodically appear between the molding and the walls and ceiling, because infrequently are these walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To address these spaces, it's possible to seal them by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at the mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
