Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of the straight walls in the area. To illustrate, it may require a single 12-foot section of crown molding to trim each lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room that has a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated for cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw can be employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a power miter saw is recommended as cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, the majority of molding is already equipped featuring a paint primer, but should you opt for bare wood molding, you should use a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to cure for at least an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels act as a reference while joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding on the wall, turn it over so that it is upright. Recruit an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and managing it while you proceed. Begin from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might periodically appear between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as rarely are the walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To address these spaces, you can fill them up by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
