Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of the straight walls in your space. To illustrate, you might need one 12-foot section of crown molding to trim each lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area with two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and indicated before cutting. While a manual miter box and saw can be used for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a power miter saw is preferred since cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim is already equipped featuring a paint primer, but if you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to cure for at least an hour before installing it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks act as a point of reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding installing the crown molding to the wall, turn it over ensuring that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to aid you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and managing it while you proceed. Commence from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might sometimes arise between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as infrequently are the walls and ceilings absolutely even. To address these spaces, you can fill them up by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
