Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the entire measurement of the straight walls in your space. To illustrate, it may require a single 12-foot section of crown molding to trim every lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room with two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated for cutting. While a manual miter box and saw is used for used for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a power miter saw can be preferred as cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim already comes with a paint primer, but should you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, you should use a coat of primer to the wood and let it cure for no less than an hour before installing it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These labels act as a point of reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding installing the crown molding to the wall, invert it so that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to help you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it while you start. Commence at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might periodically appear along the molding and the walls and ceiling, as rarely are these walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To resolve these spaces, it's possible to seal them by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
