Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the entire measurement of all the linear walls in the area. To illustrate, it may require a single 12-foot section of crown molding to cover every lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for every large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area with two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked for cutting. While a manual miter box and saw is used for employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a power miter saw can be recommended since cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim already comes with a primer coat of paint, but if you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, you should use a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to dry for no less than an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks act as a reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding to the wall, turn it over ensuring that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to aid you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it as you proceed. Commence at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may periodically arise along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because rarely are the walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To resolve these spaces, it's possible to fill them up by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
