Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of the straight walls in the area. To illustrate, it may require one 12-foot section of crown molding to cover every lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for every large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room that has two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and indicated for cutting. While a manual miter box and saw is used for used for miter-cutting crown molding, using a powered miter saw can be recommended as the cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim is already equipped featuring a primer coat of paint, but if you happen to be using bare wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood and let it dry for no less than an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels will serve as a reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding to the wall, invert it ensuring that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to help you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and managing it as you start. Commence at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might sometimes arise between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because infrequently are these walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To resolve these spaces, you can fill them up by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
