Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of the straight walls in your space. To illustrate, you might need a single 12-foot section of crown molding to trim every lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area with a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated for cutting. While a manual miter saw can be employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a power miter saw can be recommended since cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, the majority of molding is already equipped with a paint primer, but should you happen to be using bare wood molding, you should use a coat of primer to the wood and let it dry for no less than an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These labels act as a point of reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding on the wall, invert it so that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to help you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it while you proceed. Commence from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may sometimes appear along the molding and the walls and ceiling, because rarely are these walls and ceilings absolutely even. To resolve these spaces, it's possible to seal them by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any leftover gaps at the mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
