Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of all the linear walls in the area. To illustrate, it may require one 12-foot section of crown molding to cover each lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area that has a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked before cutting. While a manual miter box and saw can be used for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a power miter saw is recommended since the cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim is already equipped featuring a paint primer, but should you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to dry for at least an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks act as a point of reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding to the wall, invert it ensuring that it is upright. Recruit an assistant to help you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it while you proceed. Commence at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might sometimes arise between the molding and the walls and ceiling, as rarely are the walls and ceilings perfectly even. To address these spaces, it's possible to fill them up by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
