Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of the straight walls in the area. For instance, you might need one 12-foot section of crown molding to trim each short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area with two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked before cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw is used for used for miter-cutting crown molding, using a power miter saw can be preferred since cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, the majority of molding already comes featuring a primer coat of paint, but should you happen to be using bare wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to cure for no less than an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These marks will serve as a reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding to the wall, invert it ensuring that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to help you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it while you start. Begin from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might periodically appear along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because infrequently are these walls and ceilings perfectly even. To address these spaces, you can seal them by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any leftover gaps at the mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
