Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of the straight walls in the area. For instance, it may require one 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover each short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 square foot area that has a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked before cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw can be employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a powered miter saw is recommended as cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding already comes featuring a primer coat of paint, but should you opt for bare wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood then let it cure for no less than an hour before installing it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These labels will serve as a reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding installing the crown molding to the wall, turn it over ensuring that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to aid you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it while you start. Commence at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may periodically arise between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because infrequently are these walls and ceilings absolutely even. To resolve these spaces, you can fill them up by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at the mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
