Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of the straight walls in your space. To illustrate, it may require one 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover every short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for every large wall, especially in a 165 square foot room with two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked for cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw can be employed for miter-cutting crown molding, using a power miter saw is preferred since cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim already comes with a primer coat of paint, but if you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to cure for no less than an hour before installing it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels act as a reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding installing the crown molding to the wall, invert it so that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to aid you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and managing it while you start. Begin from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might periodically arise along the molding and the walls and ceiling, because infrequently are these walls and ceilings perfectly even. To address these spaces, you can fill them up by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
