Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of all the linear walls in the area. For instance, it may require one 12-foot strip of crown molding to trim each lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 square foot area with a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked for cutting. While a manual miter box and saw can be used for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a power miter saw can be recommended since the cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim already comes with a paint primer, but should you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood and let it dry for at least an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks act as a point of reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding to the wall, turn it over ensuring that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it while you start. Begin at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might periodically appear between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because rarely are these walls and ceilings absolutely even. To resolve these spaces, you can seal them by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
